My name is Justin Swank and this site serves as a collection of design and video work as well as showcases some of my work experiences. My career has taken me to many different places and I have worked on a wide range of projects. Throughout my career, I have done everything from shoot video at over 1800 feet underground, to building a web portal and onboarding experience for new college students. It is the thrill of adapting to new challenges the fuels me. I believe that every project is a new adventure and every problem is an opportunity to make something better.
I love a challenge, greatly enjoy improving systems, and embrace solving complex problems. I am a person who cares about people and makes it a priority to listen to and support others. I value kindness, fairness, and equity.
For some background, I spent the beginning of my career working on corporate communications for a Fortune 500 energy company. This involved travelling to coal mines, gas rigs, river barges, remote offices, and a sea terminal. All the time, producing video and graphic content to help ensure safety and compliance was instilled as a company-wide value.
The second phase of my career has taken me to my alma mater, where I worn many different hats. I have worked on internal communications, new student onboarding, strategic project work, and managed offices for the division of Student Life. Most recently, I have been working as an Assistant Dean and directing the recently merged Residence Life and Student Engagement offices (and their subordinate functions). As budgets at a small school are very lean, projects can often be even more challenging. Creativity and cost-sensitivity are key at every juncture to ensure the project goals are met while eliminating cost overruns.
On this site, you can see a collection of my work from my time in the Communications/Marketing and Student Affairs worlds. The Design section hosts a sampling of my digital and print projects, including logo designs. The Initiatives section highlights larger scale projects and campaigns. Communications presents some of my newsletters and print publications work. You can view my video demo reel in the Video section and, finally, Art showcases some of my drawings and design work. All of these projects were just for fun!
