Orientation
For Fall of 2022, we expanded the New Student Orientation program from 4 days to 7 days. The program supported about 380 new students and included a range of different activities, including the examples below:
- Thriving Together – this program, hosted by a guest speaker, celebrates difference and helps students understand the difference between equality and equity.
- Casino Night – a Casino themed experience with live table games and slot machines. Resident Assistants served mocktails that they created themed on the first-year residence halls.
- Orientation Vacation – a vacation themed event that featured a camper photo booth, rock wall, boardwalk games, boardwalk candy store, axe throwing, s’mores fondue, giant beach balls, and a drive-in movie.
- How About this Party – Interactive theatre experience with contracted performers which discusses alcohol use, sexual consent, and other issues related to interpersonal interaction.
- Community Fair – campus offices and local vendors welcome students to Washington and provide information, samples, and giveaways.
Neon Night
For Neon Night, we hosted a glow-in-the-dark roller rink in the Rossin Campus Center’s Allen Ballroom. On the balcony, we had a black mini golf. On the main floor, students also could grab a themed mocktail and snacks. Outside, our Student Activities Board hosted Laser Tag, the Coloring Club hosted neon tie-dye bandanas, and we had fire pits available for s’mores and mountain pies. About 200 people attended this event.
Feel Good Fridays
Campus Offices are invited to participate in our weekly Feel Good Friday program. A gazebo is set-up each Friday from 11:30 am – 1:00 pm and the College community can come and enjoy a free activity, grab a snack, or learn something new.
Finals Week Stress Busters
Every finals week, we host Stress Busters to help students reduce stress. These events differ each semester, but some traditions include Late Nite Breakfast, adult coloring books, and a Finals Feast at a local church.
Oktoberfest
In partnership with the Student German Club, our office hosted an Oktoberfest. We set up a beer hall where under 21 students would have access to bottled beers (ginger beer, root beer, and birch beer) and our over 21 students could get a bottle of authentic Oktoberfest Märzen. The event also included live music, outdoor games, a photo booth, and hot pretzels.
Welcome Back Bash
A welcome back event for students that varies each semester. Past events have included inflatable games, live animals, airbush t-shirts, and carnival activities.
DUBJAM
DUBJAM is W&J’s Spring Concert event sponsored by the Student Government Association. I manage this event and work to secure the contract, coordinate the logisitics, and produce the advertising materials. The 2022 artist was Sean Kingston with opener TELYKAST. About 800 to 1000 students and guests attend the event annually. DUBJAM weekend also includes some other complementary events that we assist with.
